Leprino Foods to Close Lemoore East Plant, Impacting Over 300 Jobs

Leprino Foods, the top global mozzarella cheese producer, plans to close its Lemoore East plant in California, resulting in over 300 job losses.

The decision stems from rising California operating costs, the facility’s age, and increased production capacity at a modern plant in Lubbock, Texas.

Lemoore East has been a local dairy landmark since 1910, with Leprino operating it since the 1980s.

Together with the adjacent Lemoore West facility, it processes massive quantities of milk daily, serving prominent pizza chains like Domino’s and Pizza Hut.

While Lemoore West will remain open, the closure of Lemoore East signals a shift as food companies seek lower costs and friendlier business climates in Texas.

The fate of the Lemoore East site is unclear, leaving the local workforce and economy facing uncertainty as Leprino pledges support during the transition.
